RICHMOND, Va. -- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is reconsidering a campaign comparing images of animal abuse with those of slavery after complaints from civil rights groups and others.
The animal rights group's "Animal Liberation" campaign included 12 panels juxtaposing pictures of black people in chains with shackled elephants and other provocative images.
"We're not continuing right now while we evaluate," said Dawn Carr, a PETA spokeswoman. "We're reviewing
One panel showed a black civil rights protester being beaten at a lunch counter 
beside a photo of a seal being bludgeoned:( .
Another panel, titled "Hanging," showed a graphic photo of a white mob surrounding two lynched blacks:) , their bodies hanging from tree limbs, while a nearby picture showed a cow hanging in a slaughterhouse:rolleyes: .
Controversy erupted Aug. 8, when the display was in New Haven, Conn.
One upset black male was over heard to say -

Racism is still a touchy issue in the U.S. The last known lynching was less than 40 years ago. Almost 4,000 Blacks were lynched between 1882 and 1968 according to the archives at Tuskegee University. It’s been a little more than 140 years since the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Just six years ago 49-year-old James Byrd Jr. was chained to a pickup truck and dragged to his death on a rural road in Jasper, Texas.

It always amazes me that blacks actually feel so superior to the animals in this world. The furry ones bring alot of happiness to us and all the filthy blacks bring is misery. It's too bad Peta and the other groups won't say that. Tis true itz.

This reminds me of the big stink when they made a reference to the jews and the holocaust to talk about some form of animal abuse. PETA, apparently, is just not sensitive enough.

peta is a fucking joke anyway. I can agree that animals shouldn't be mistreated like they are in some instances, but holy shit.

Got that right. I read not too long ago where one of the biggies in the org (president, maybe?) said that it's okay -- now get a load of this -- for people to have sex with animals just so long as the furry little darlings weren't harmed. These are the same people who'll stage protest marches against lab research facilities "cruel" enough to experiment on rhesus monkeys while attempting to find a cure for diseases afflicting mankind such as cancer, leukemia, heart disease, etc.

A lot of the membership are nothing but a bunch of bored, blue-blooded housewives with nothing better to do: the idle rich. A friend of mine who worked part-time security at the Stamford Marriott in Ct. told me about a fur show held in one of the hotel's ballrooms. They busted a couple PETA members who were "oohing and ahhing" as they gently stroked the furs on display. Seems innocent enough, right? Not quite -- they had razor blades taped between their fingers and were literally slicing mink and sable coats to shreds.
