Justice, puppy who was tortured and burned, dies of injuries

Justice, a 4-month-old puppy brutally tortured and burned in Pleasant Grove, has died.

Jonnie England, vice chairwoman of the Dallas Animal Shelter Commission, said Saturday that the dog died Friday night despite the efforts of veterinarians treating his severe injuries.

The Lab-terrier mix had third-degree burns over 70 percent of his body after he was doused with lighter fluid and set on fire the night of April 4 at an apartment complex in the 1200 block of Masters Drive.

Witnesses said a crowd had gathered around the suffering puppy that night, and when officers arrived, a group of laughing teens scattered. The dog was badly burned and hiding behind an air-conditioning unit, police said. Witnesses said they also saw the puppy being strangled.
