Ex-coach gets jail time, probation for having sex with student

KINGSTON - A former high school ski coach who admitted having sex with an underage female student was sentenced Thursday to six months in jail and 10 years of probation.
"How somebody in your position could take advantage of a young person like this is beyond my comprehension, which is a good thing, because it means I'm not a pervert like you," Ulster County Judge J. Michael Bruhn told Stephen R. Axelson before handing down the sentence.
Axelson, 56, of Dashville Road, Esopus, pleaded guilty in October to two counts of felony rape and one count each of endangering the welfare of a child and criminal contempt, both misdemeanors.
In doing so, he admitted having sex with a 16-year-old girl who was on his Nordic ski team at New Paltz High School, which he had coached for 15 years.
The sex was not forcible, authorities said, but Axelson was charged with rape because the victim was under 17, the state's age of consent, when the incident occurred in December 2002. The girl graduated New Paltz High School in 2004 and now attends college out of state, authorities have said.

I'm sure this type of thing goes on often all around the country...and in fact, around the world.
I'm just curious as to what VNN'ers think about the case...and the sentence. Amazingly enough...they "allowed" me to comment (and slip a GREAT link in!

Not only that, but he will be under the Magans law, meaning he will have to register as a sex offender in the community…. I know a guy from work who was charged the same, with a 16 yearld old, she stayed with him over the weekend at his house,his 28, got 6 month in the jail and now has to register It was her mother that called the cops. In either case , having a relationship with a 16, will result in trouble regardless of consent, you know women, they can be vindictive... France is 14 years of age of legal consent

Well, what he did was immoral but I personally don't think it was criminal...I live in connecticut the age of consent is 16 here. Just remember it wasn't so long ago that women got married much younger, besides women go through puberty at 15 or 16 right? Who can say that millions of years of evolution is wrong? If nature decrees that they are old enough to bear children can you really judge?

Actually now that I think about it if that was my child I would cut the guys balls off, its a catch22. Most guys would trip over there dicks to get a fresh piece of ass but if you had a daughter I'm guessing you would think differently.

I'm married to a girl near my age(me 32-she 26),which I know works for most couples.But at one time not long ago,marriages were pre-arrainged,and age wasn't a major factor,as was status and rearing a family.
Unfortunately,nowadays relationships are more about self-gratification,and less and less about being part of something much larger,our folk.
Very sad,isn't it.

A man goes to jail for felony rape for consensual sex with a girl that was a couple of months short of the legal limit? The truth is that the girl is fucking someone anyway so the age of the man is not a matter of concern.
There is an ethical violation because he was a teacher but it should not rise to the level of imprisonment.
But let me say this again, THE GIRL WAS MOST LIKELY SEXUALLY ACTIVE SO THE AGE OF THE PARTNER DID NOT MATTER. More power to him. BTW, have you seen what women in their 50's look like? Yuuk.....

Yep. I have a daughter and it does change your thinking about a great many things.
@Yankee Jim: Good post over there on the Freeman! I especially liked the plug about how the ADL started. Too bad you could not put a link in there to a site like jewwatch or some site that documents how the ADL was created to protect the jew child rapist/murderer.
