On the night of August 3, the U.S. Senate ratified the Council of Europe's Convention on Cybercrime, a sweeping treaty that requires collaboration among signatory states in the investigation of Internet crimes. The Bush administration exerted heavy pressure on the Senate to ratify the treaty.
Under the Convention, whose signatories include 38 European countries,Canada,Japan, andSouth Africa, theU.S.will enforce not just its own, but other countries' Internet laws, including ones that violate rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution.
The treaty requires that the federal government help enforce other countries' "cybercrime" laws - even if the act being prosecuted is not illegal in theUnited States. This means that countries that have laws limiting free speech on the Net could oblige the F.B.I. to uncover the identities of anonymousU.S.critics, or monitor their communications on behalf of foreign governments. American ISPs will be obliged to obey other jurisdictions' requests to log their users’ behavior without due process or compensation.
Internationally, the treaty came into force last year. Until the August 3 vote, ratification by theU.S.had been blocked by a "hold" placed by conservative lawmakers. But Republican senators, under heavy pressure from the administration to drop their objections, let it fly.
The Convention targets hackers, child pornographers, and terrorists attempting to attack infrastructure facilities or financial institutions. It also specifically requires cooperation in efforts to quash the distribution of "racist" material.
Fifteen signatory states have already requestedU.S.assistance under treaty obligations.

Do you honestly think the American people do not know what is happening? Of course they know what is happening. You would have to be severely mentally retarded not to know what is happening. I belive this National Vanguard story is not accurate. There is no mention of "racism." The crimes are computer crimes.

Exactly. It's always death by 1000 cuts for these people, thats how they get all this anti Constitutional stuff passed, just baby steps. One little step at a time until stuff like this is passed right under our noses, with nary a pubic outcry from a populace that was kept in the dark until it was too little too late.
Zog seems to love this tactic, telling us that things they don't want to do, such as defend the southern border, are "impractical and impossible" while fighting someone else's war on the other side of the globe and sinking trillions of dollars into it is completely do-able and something we should even be doing more of...They must really think we're all morons out here.
