Now here's something that I thought I'd bring up. I can not seriously believe how many people think if you have a Spanish name it makes you automatically Mexican. I knew a kid back in junior high and high school with the last name Hernandez and people thought of him as a Mexican. He got picked on because of it; wetback, spic (although this is a traditional insult for Spaniards, it has basically come to mean Mexicans in modern lingo), beaner, ect. He was actually a full blooded Spaniard white. His family was actually from Northern Spain.
Now I looked at the census, and Spaniards aren't even considered white! Hispanic! Hispanic is a traditional term in Spain to designate Spaniards and those from the surrounding area like Portugal and the southern Iberian. In American they lump them with Mexicans and South Americans. "Those who adhere to Spanish culture/tradition" are supposedly Hispanic as well. My friends family was counted as Hispanic. So were the Latinos. And Brazilians. They are NOT the same. Good God....
