This video states that 100,000 blacks are entering the middle class each year (as of 2006) in South Africa. By some reckoning maybe thats true but hard to understand how its possible with collapsing infrastructure, electrical outages, and fleeing businesses.

The poor whites depicted were said to have once enjoyed "social and economic privilege." I don't know, but my guess is that even under apartheid they made little more than a modest living.
