We need to group up and do the same thing to individuals in social situations. Of course, even without playing "Spanish Prisoner" the white guilt is certainly wearing off. Economic prosperity is sinking. The booming economy was like an algae bloom brought about by runoff of nutrients from a shoreline agribusiness farm. The source of the nutrients will stop, and so will the algae bloom.

And there will be a backlash.

From the German bunker where he killed himself to a revisionist monument in Wisconsin, Adolf Hitler is in the news this week. Area Jewish leaders won't say they're happy about the attention, but silence and apathy, they say, would be worse.

"Nazism is the ultimate manifestation of evil that mankind has known," said Rabbi Shlomo Yaffe of Congregation Agudas Achim in West Hartford. "The very fact that it makes such a fuss in the news tells you that people identify Hitler with the ultimate evil."

Rabbi Stephen Fuchs of Congregation Beth Israel, also in West Hartford, said, "There is a school of thought that says, `Don't give any attention.' I agree with Rabbi Yaffe - we should take this seriously. It's not like we're not sure what the end result can be."

Recent news stories about Hitler include:

"I'm not sure," Fuchs said, "whether the four events are anything more than a random confluence of events. But we would be blind not to notice an increase in anti-Semitic incidents.
