After watching Glenn Beck's tirade tonight on CNN, it has become clear to me that the standard and acceptable "party line" for the judeocons vis-a-vis Russia is that the old adversary is back again. And why? I suggest it is that the "global terrorism" hysteria has, after seven or more years, gotten a little tired and worn out.

People don't want to about Iraq anymore, and even an upsurge in Taliban activity along the Afghanistan/Pakistan border has only brought minimal notice in the media. We haven't had a decent terrorist attack in some time. It seems like the Islamists are dropping the ball, as it were.

Since the ever-pending attack on Iran seems to be stuck in neutral, with both sides hoping the other will make the first move, they have nothing left with which to frighten the masses back into silent submission. Luckily, Russia handed them a propaganda gift recently with the Georgia situation. The zogites have been itching to jump on the anti-Russia bandwagon for a long time but nothing until now had enough "oomph." Putin making himself PM under his protege Medvedev was something they would have latched on to, but it's a bit too abstract to get the public worked up over. But a little war -- with the action-movie style visuals that come naturally to a war, the burning buildings, wailing old women, and guys in fatigues shooting AKs at unseen opponents -- was just the event they needed. It doesn't matter that it's a tiny region that most couch potatoes never heard about; the videos are captivating and can be replayed over and over again. Minor details (like the fact that Georgia attacked first) can conveniently be forgotten.
