The Rev. Fred Phelps, founder of Westboro Baptist Church in, Topeka, Kan., contends that American soldiers are being killed in Iraq as vengeance from God for protecting a country that harbors gays. The church, which is not affiliated with a larger denomination, is made up mostly of Phelps' children, grandchildren and in-laws.

The church members carried signs and shouted things such as "God hates fags" and "God hates you."

About 10 church members protested near Smyrna United Methodist Church and nearly 20 stood outside the National Guard Armory in Ashland City. Members have demonstrated at other soldier funerals across the nation.

The funerals were for Staff Sgt. Asbury Fred Hawn II, 35, in Smyrna and Spc. Gary Reese Jr., 22, in Ashland City. Both were members of the Tennessee National Guard.

Hundreds of Smyrna and Ashland City residents and families of other soldiers turned out at both sites to counter the message the Westboro Baptist members brought.

So many counterdemonstrators were gathered in Ashland City that police, sheriff's deputies and state troopers were brought in to control traffic and protect the protesters.

The church members held protesting permits, and counterprotesters in Smyrna turned their backs to Westboro Baptist members until time expired on the protest permits.

"If they were protesting the government, I might even join them," Danny Cotton, 56, said amid cries of "get out of our town" and "get out of our country."

Andrew Dice Clay AKA Andrew Silverstein does have his moments, like the Arsenio Hall feud. There was a time I thought he was Italian, but with his filthy humor I should have known he was a Jew.

Isn't Clay one of those 90's guys like what's-his-face (... oh yeah, Denis Leary. Amazing how I could forget his name that easily...) who made their names ripping off their betters, like Bill Hicks and Sam Kinison and that generation?

OK- he has a whole lot of nerve. I'll grant that.

But he's still logical enough to play games offsetting the social unacceptability of one of his beliefs, by boasting about how socially acceptable some of his other beliefs are. So I wouldn't even rate him as a genuine, old-school 'crazy'.

The images were great. Phelps does his part. He is the voice of many, many men. I think men hate fags more than women. I always hear women giving the fag leadway into our societies, feeling sorry for them and their pain. Oh boo, hoo. I say put them out of their crappy ass fucking misery. What the hell has bringing the fag into front lines of our society done other than open the door into a preverse free-for-all for our entering youths in direct conflict of the way we white have always done things. Every movement can be viewed in this way. What has the hippes done or the femi's? They bring nothing but trouble. They have all played their part in knocking down the foundations of our white world.

God hates the fag and so do I. When I do my fag cartoons I have to drop all love for any fags I have met and known and tolorated. Hurt feeling are not my concern, fighting for what is right is what it is about. When I post a cartoon that is full of 'hate' I am thinking of the vets they show talking in the HBO special, 'Band of Brothers'. War truly is hell. Sometimes you have to do things that you may not be comfortable with.

In fact I hate the fag more than I ever did. The more vocal they are, the more they try to enter into our normal society, the more they push it.....

You can only kill the things you hate, not the things you love. Sometimes the enemy ain't dressed in a uniform. My father has always hinted about having to kill women and children in Nam, it was not something he liked to do or even talk about but he always added, it was 'shoot or be shot'.

I also don't mind him mocking dead soldiers. The number of dead americans played an important role with getting us out of Vietnam. I am suprised that that tactic is not used more, expecially by the democunts, but well, we all know that neither the right or the left wants to stop this war.
