Spartan life was legendary not because of their intelligence,art or culture,but solely because of their desire to kill-bread into them from birth.Today we want to believe ,in our over romanced media culture ,that ancient Greeks were of more classic proportions and possessed higher esteemed values and sensibilities of wisdom,faith and order.The reality was that Spartans fought harder because they had less.Period

[color="Red"]They fought harder because they lived in a fertile valley and the surrounding tribes were always attacking them , trying to take their land . They became warlike by circumstance , not design .

By the time the Spartans had concurred Athens(the largest city with the largest well trained and equipped army in the world),Athenians had become fat,lazy,over educated and cowardly.Sound familiar?

[color="Red"]The Athenians were corrupt and tyrannical . Athenians were very harsh masters . The Spartans had a reputation as gentle handed masters , most Greeks choose to join the Spartans because the Spartans wouldn't put a heavy burden on them , unlike the Athenians .

Spartans became really tough after the 'Great Slave Rebellion ' , where slaves almost wiped out the spartans .

Just being tough isn't enough . One clever tactician can often undo 10,000 tough warriors . Both the Macedonias and Romans were flexible in battle tactics , it lead to their successes .
