My oldest boy (9) broached the subject of politics with me yesterday evening: "Who are you going to vote for Daddy"? I must have drawn a blank expression, because before I could say anything he answered his own question: "Well, I know you’re not voting Obama – he’s a nigger. So are you voting for McCain?" I couldn’t answer him. All I could say was "I’m really not sure."

Then he started trying to analyze the candidates’ positions: "Well what is McCain going to do and what is Obama going to do if they get elected"? I tried to explain to him how liberals generally are the antithesis of private property and a merit based system. I told him that Obama would take a substantial portion of our money and redistribute it to other people who didn’t have jobs. The kid’s mouth dropped open. "NO WAY!! If YOU earn it, it should be YOURS!"

About this time the youngest (8) who had been listening came back with: "I don’t think that’s so bad. Jesus wants us to help the poor." [[That’s his Mama talking.]] So I explained to him that, no, we weren’t talking about poor people because they couldn’t help it, that we were talking about people–generally niggers– who were poor because they were too sorry to do anything about it; that it was fine to help the poor, but that people should do it based on their own conscience, not by government dictate.

Anyone else had this conversation? How did you deal with it? The word 'jew' is not in either of their vocabularies, so that would have involved an explanation that was too in depth for them, so I tried to keep it on a simpler level.
