The passenger pigeon was a common bird in the Americas up until the end of the 19th century. The flocks would literally cover the sky and even take hours to pass you overhead. Their population estimated into the billions, maybe even as much as 5 billion of these bird inhabited North America at one point. If the year was 1880, you would be shocked to learn that in a 20 year span this species would be extinct.
If you want to learn the details of how the passenger pigeon went extinct you can google it for yourself. In a nutshell, they were used as feed for slaves and the poor. But they were not bred on farms like chickens or cows. We simply went to the fields during breeding season and hunted them to extinction.
So, if anyone thinks that it is a crazy idea that white people, at about 600 million, can cease to exist, just tell them the story of the passenger pigeon.
