Why is this shit considered important -- let alone newsworthy -- except for the people directly involved?

Given the choice of an all-expense-paid trip to the Royal Wedding and dinner with the Royal Couple and the Queen Herself; or an afternoon off doing just absolutely nothing, I'd choose the latter.
