It's been said that "The flag is the last refuge of the scoundrel".

I've had occasion to deal with a few people of late who use their "family" as an excuse for their own sorriness. For instance, they've screwed their clients in the most absurd, stupid way, but hide behind "precious family time" or similar such bullshit to cloak their own absurd incompetence and callousness. Repeatedly breaking appointments on a whim, etc.

The only people I used to hear this from were Baptists or other low-totem pole Protestants. About 10 to 15 years ago, it started being heard frequently in public related to that gigantic scam called college football.

Now, it seems like people who really should know better use this terminology as an excuse for their fuck-ups, as if it's some sort of sanctimonious trump card for scumbags to play that makes them inviolate.

When tin pot dictators in banana republics hide behind women and children, we call them out as the pieces of shit they are.

Anyone else noticed this? Is it just me?
