REPRESENTATIVES FROM the United Nations will be heading to Rio de Janeiro this coming Monday to discuss the agenda and programme for November's Internet Governance Forum.

All sorts will be at the convention: governMentals, spokespeople from the private sector, civil society, internet communities and academia will all join for informal consultations with a 47-member advisory group appointed to assist the UN Secretary General.

The groups will be discussing a bunch of internet hot topics, including security, freedom of expression, multilingualism and the building of information infrastructures for communities in developing countries.

After monday's talks, the advisory group will gather yet again for a private session on the fourth and fifth of September to work out all the kinks and details for the eventual Rio de Janeiro meeting.

What we do claim is that the northern European, and particularly Anglo-Saxons made this country. Oh, yes; the others helped. But that is the full statement of the case. They came to this country because it was already made as an Anglo-Saxon commonwealth. They added to it, they often enriched it, but they did not make it, and they have not yet greatly changed it. We are determined that they shall not. (Congressional Record, 4/8/1924, 5922)
