At the end of the movie 'Das Boot' it stated the number of German submarineres that never returned. Most people assumed that the number given was all those that died. But the statement said 'never returned', not died. My theory is that many of those submariners saw no reason to return to Germany because Germany lost the war and therefore they headed to South America(or somewhere), ditched their subs and melted into society. Any ideas or inks or info on this subject?
