This tends to be subject matter that folks don't like to think about, as we might be the only species actually aware of our own mortality. A while back I was with my father visiting one his good friends in the hospice (he was near death but still quite lucid). I believe he was 92. I imagine it must be weird knowing that you might have a day or two left on this planet (I believe he died two days later). Even my own parents, both in their mid-eighties, might be thinking "well I probably have maybe 5 or 7 years left". We all know how time flies by as we get older.

Naturally religious folks have their own view - usually some type of heaven and hell concept. Some might believe in reincarnation, or that their "energy" goes off wherever.

But what about those of us that not are religious and don't believe I the supernatural?

I heard some say is death is probably like being under anesthesia (sleep without dreams). The one I tend to believe is that you had no concept of anything before you were born. This will also be the case after you die. Granted oblivion, or "nothingness" is also a tough concept to swallow.

Interesting quote from the cult film Demon Seed:

Death is a gentleman too. He makes good losers of us all. I understand death. Men have always taken it too seriously. Life is more terrifying and more mysterious.

It’s time to stop being Americans. It’s time to start being White Men again. - Gregory Hood
