Anybody want to tell me what exactly a Joy Tree is? Is it some kind of tree used for masturbation or something?

I would presume your own presumption is correct.
I envision a "Joy Tree" as an old notty stump with LOTS of holes for perverted, filthy pleasure. A "public recepticle" of sorts.

I not sure what a "joy tree" is, but maybe these strange-looking pickels grew on them...?

We have those kind of trees here. Those are the ones that get some limbs sawed off at an early age. When these trees grow up, a sort of vaginal lööking lip grows surrounding the absent limb.
