My husband told me a hilarious story that had me laughing hysterically, that the first time he learned about blacks as a child was from those world vision commercials on tv that show black kids in africa starving hungry with flies buzzing around them and such. His first thought was that their dark flesh looked like rotting meat, and he actually thought that black is what you become if you don't eat enough, that you start to rot away, your hair gets curly, your face changes, etc.

My first personal experience with a black that I can remember when I was a child was actually from seeing the show fresh prince of bel-air. Lol.
