Another Day, Another Dress for Kate + Another Casual Ensemble

With apologies for the lateness of our post, we take a look at Day Six of the Royal Tour, the Duke and Duchess are visiting Yellowknife in the Northwest Territories.
via The Daily Mail
Kate showcased a new look, the “Bullet Dress” by Malene Birger, a Danish designer known for her clean lines and contemporary styling. Here you have a better look at Kate in the dress, honing her tree-planting skills and getting ready to watch a street hockey game in Yellowknife.
Getty Images/Reuters
Although described as a ‘linen’ dress in the Clarence House information, the garment is actually a silk/cotton blend in a ‘linen weave’, a perfect weight for the day. The frock also features very strong lines on the shoulders, reverse pleats at the waist and khaki or taupe self-belt detail. Below we show the dress as it was seen when on sale at Selfridges.
Via Selfridges
Kate paired her trusty LK Bennett Sledge2 pumps, eggshell clutch and Kiki McDonough Citrine Drop earrings with the dress for a solid look.
The newlyweds were also presented with something near and dear to the hearts of most Canadians, hockey sweaters.
Chris Jackson/Getty Images
It is wonderful to see Kate trying a new designer, especially one with Ms. Birger’s credentials, although we were taken aback to see a primary garment that didn’t relate specifically to the Canadian or UK fashion scene. We can also see Kate deciding she wanted to mix it up a bit, and she did such a good job of it the online Kate Fashion Watching community was absolutely stumped trying to figure out who designed the dress.
The Duchess looked very pretty, her usually tastefully elegant self. This was a more-than-solid appearance, no question, but it felt the least inspired of her choices thus far, there wasn’t anything that ‘popped’ in the ensemble. (And there’s every likelihood that is precisely how Kate wanted it to be.) Here is one more shot with Kate beaming, very much enjoying herself, looking very happy in her role.
Chris Jackson/Getty Images
Later this afternoon William and Kate boarded a float plane.
Timothy A. Clary/AFP/Getty
As you can see, Kate was in a more casual ensemble, a camp shirt, her Sebago Bela shoes and another pair of jeans.
Chris Jackson/Getty Images
The jeans are different from the pair worn yesterday, and the Duchess also sported an interesting leather belt.
Chris Jackson/Getty Images
We will work on specifics for you regarding the skinny jeans, shirt and belt, which features some fascinating embellishment.
BTW, we would declare this as our least inspired post at this point of the tour, we can only imagine how exhausting the trip is for everyone involved, especially those ‘on parade,’ Kate and William.

We had yet one more change of clothing to report, for those of you keeping score that makes it four ensembles in the day.
Kate maintained her elegant style despite the rainy weather in the Northwest Territories.
Andy Clark/Reuters
Once again Kate’s hair stylist, James Pryce, worked his magic aboard the plane carrying the entourage from Prince Edward Island to Yellowknife, that is clear in this photograph.
Timothy A. Clary/AFP/Getty Images
Kate wore her navy trench coat again, we have a comment from Meagan the coat is by Ted Baker; that makes sense to me, does anyone else have feedback on that notion?
those navy pumps we are all still debating, and a yet-to-be-determined white dress. As far as the dress goes we have ruled out the Reiss Nanette (neckline), Reiss Peacock (neckline), 2006 McQueen worn earlier in the day (length).
Andy Clark/Reuters
A visual refresher for those of us who can’t quite remember the varying ensembles throughout the day.

A dizzying amount to keep track of! We’ll be back later with our poll results and a few more mysteries solved. Until then, one more look at the Duchess in Yellowknife.

It has been a busy day here at WKW Intergalactic HQ, the Duchess has chosen a broad variety of styles for Day 5 of the Royal Tour. We begin with this morning’s look in front of Province House in Charlottetown on PEI (Prince Edward Island).
Paul Darrow/Reuters
The Duchess is wearing Alexander McQueen again, the dress is also another piece in creamy white from Sarah Burton. The knit dress exuded a nautical feel, perfect for Canada’s smallest province and the picturesque setting. Featuring a dropped waist and self-tying scarf, the dress is crafted from an elegant cable knit fabric, with navy tipping accenting the hem, cuffs and collar.

Our friend @RegalEyes on Twitter offered an intriguing suggestion about Kate’s dress.
Regal Eyes Twitter Feed
He is speaking of a classic, the “Anne of Green Gables” station dress, a stellar reference. One of the primary reasons the couple is visiting PEI on the Tour is Kate’s fondness for Anne of Green Gables. Here is the dress @RegalEyes referred to as seen at Theatrix Costume.
"Station Dress" Theatrix Costume
It seems likely that perhaps Sarah Burton modeled Kate’s dress after this style, and the reason no one can find the frock online might be that it is a bespoke piece, or that it is as yet unreleased and part of a future collection.
Unfortunately the weather was not fully cooperative, Kate carried an umbrella for part of the parade.
Paul Darrow/Reuters
UPDATE: As it turns out this is not the first time the dress style has been worn by someone in the public eye. The folks at Red Carpet Fashion Awards were tipped that Sarah Jessica Parker wore the same dress back in 2006.
Via Red Carpet Fashion Awards
Kate looked very comfortable with her hair pulled back, her diamond and sapphire earrings and navy pumps. We are working to better identify the shoes, the wise WKW Facebook crew alerts us these are different in several ways from that pair of shoes. Here you can better see the earrings.

Then it was time for the afternoon activities, including Prince William’s training demonstration, landing a helicopter on the water, a technique called waterbirding.
Ryan Remiorz/TheCanadian Press/AP Photo
Kate made a change of clothing before this, switching into a navy trench coat, red scarf, flats and pants.
AP Photo via The Daily Mail
You can also see that Kate has her camera at the ready so she can take a few of her own photographs. We believe the Duchess is wearing an older coat, the same navy trench worn as far back as at least 2008, when Kate wore it to Cheltenham.

Here is a better look showing the back of the coat.

Our friends at Kate Middleton Style blog believe the Duchess is wearing a Hugo Boss scarf from Selfridges, that seems a good possibility.

The scarf is a silk/cashmere blend, available in three colors for £160. (Yes, still available as of this writing, 3pm EDT!)
And it’s on to yet another change of wardrobe for the Dragon Boat races.
Chris Jackson/Getty Images
For this event Kate changed into skinny jeans, windbreaker style nylon jacket and what look like canvas flats.
John Stillwell/Pool/Reuters
The Duke’s team actually won the race, he and Kate shared a hug afterward.

Here is a better view of the skinny jeans and flats.

As you can see, the Duchess also removed those sapphire and diamond earrings, opting instead for her Kiki McDonough citrine drops.
Chris Jackson/Getty Images
We will be back later with more details on the varying ensembles, but want to get these very first photos up for everyone.
UPDATES:
SHOES: The Duchess’s shoes for the dragon boat race have been identified as the Sebago Ladies Taupe Bala Deck Shoe. The eagle eyed JanetNorCal on Twitter quickly spotted the brand, The Duchess Style discovered the style and AtTheBlueBarn found the exact color match, very much a team effort from everyone.
Sebago Ladies Bala
We can’t find the shoe available at any retailers, however there are some available on eBay.
JACKET: Kate wore another American brand for the boat race, Nike.
Nike Anorack Women’s Jacket
As Lindsey pointed out in her blog comments, The National reports the jacket is Nike’s Windproof Anorack Women’s Golf Jacket in black and midnight fog.

The jacket sells for $80 and is currently available on the Nike website.
JEANS:
We are not 100% convinced these are precisely what Kate wore, but they are pretty close, the J Brand Olympia Jeggings.

Here you see Kate and William, note once again she has changed her shoes to the black slingback wedges seen earlier this week.

Kate continued her casually elegant style statements, changing from her Erdem dress into a different frock, this one by Joseph, another UK company.

The Duchess changed into the dress midday, above we show her upon arrival in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

Here is how the dress is described online:
This sleeveless scoop-neck dress features grosgrain banding and ruching at the waist. Vertical grosgrain banding at hidden back zip. Vertical banding at sides. Serged edges at neckline and at arm openings. Lined at skirt.
Mathieu Belanger/Reuters
The dress is an acetate/polyester blend, not a fabric that breathes well at all, but Kate looked quite comfortable, it must not be an issue. The dress did come in different colors, and was available at La Garçonne in the print, however that version is also sold out. Kate Middleton Style blog also shows the dress in gold, that color may still be available.
Vanessa Dress -La Garçonne
Today’s choices mark a return to the high street, originally this piece retailed at $425, it was deeply discounted at sites we checked this afternoon before it sold out, averaging $215. Today’s choice was also a return to a designer the Duchess likes, some may remember she wore the Joseph Nessie Tweed jacket to Epsom in early June. (We show it in navy below.)
Selfridges/Bauer-Griffin
Kate carried the same bag today that she had at Epsom, the LK Bennett Natalie Clutch, £140/$225 (approximately).
LK Bennett
The Natalie is out of stock, but it seems you can put your name on a waiting list, click the link above to visit the page.
We also saw a familiar pair of earrings, the Effervescence Bubble Stiletto Earrings from Links of London.
Paul Darrow/Reuters
Some readers may recall seeing Kate using these to accessorize her stunning Jenny Packham evening gown at the ARK charity dinner (more on that here) in early June. The earrings are shown as being available ($215) on the US Links of London site, we do not see them on the UK site.
Getty Images/Links of London
Two mysteries remain from today’s look, the first, Kate’s jacket.
Reuters/AP Photo
It may be difficult to see in these images, but the tweed jacket is a soft salmon color, with white/peach checked material on the placket and cuffs on the three-quarter sleeves. Perhaps you can see it more clearly in this image.
Robert F. Bukaty/AP Photo
Media traveling with the tour say that officials had no information to share on the jacket, it was a ‘personal item’ from Kate’s closet. Our guess is that she has had the jacket for some time; while all of your super sleuths spent hours trying to determine its origins, we were not able to do so. (Sniff.)
The other unknown item is the pair of shoes the Duchess changed into for the afternoon and early evening. We don’t have a good photo of them, but can share that the wise eyes at Kate Middleton Style blog think they may be the Rupert Sanderson Winona Pump.
Rupert Sanderson Winona at My Theresa
We have nary a clue about the shoes, and won’t until we see a much better photo of Kate’s shoes.
That wraps up our look at today’s second ensemble from the Duchess, we will continue to search for information on the necklace she is wearing, we know there is a great deal of interest in that piece. A good place to visit is Diana’s Jewels, Ayvee is also cataloging some of Kate’s jewelry, she has already put together an amazing collection of photos with splendid information.
We leave you with this evening’s “Picture That Has Nothing To Do With Kate’s Clothing But Is Too Precious To Ignore,” the look on that little girl’s face is priceless.

Kate Picks A Second Erdem Dress For Visit to Québec City
2011 Canada US Tour, Accessories, Clothing, Jewelry
Jul

2011
It’s Canadian-born designer Erdem for Kate today, the second time she has appeared in one of his creations on the Royal Tour.
PHOTO: Chris Jackson/Getty Images via Just Jared
Kate chose the designer’s navy ‘Jacquenta’ dress from the pre-fall 2011 collection for this morning’s non-denominational worship service aboard the HMCS Montreal; she also wore it for the afternoon ceremonies in Québec City. We want to acknowledge the amazingly rapid identification of the dress by our Facebook friend Anne.
Phil Noble/Reuters
The dress is fitted, has three-quarter length sleeves and showcases Mr. Moralioglu’s skill with lace overlays and embellishment.

This photo of Kate talking with a representative of the official welcoming committee better shows the lace detail.
Chris Jackson/Getty Images
The Duchess again demonstrates her diplomatic savvy by choosing a dress by a ‘favorite son’ designer, one that also reflects awareness of Québec’s provincial flag, it is blue and white. Subtle touches, to be sure, but ultimately important in the bigger scheme of things.
Kate repeated her sapphire and diamond earrings, LK Bennett Sledge2 pumps and her clutch. I think all of these may be categorized as “go to” items for the Duchess.

For those interested in the designer, Net-a-Porter has a number of pieces available, as does My Theresa. For a look at similar dresses with a *much* friendlier price point, pop over and visit our friends at Kate Middleton Style Blog.
Also of note today, Kate has gone for navy blue, at this point I would say it is becoming one of her signature colors, along with white.

We will be back later with another post, and leave you with this image of William and Kate greeting people at la Maison Dauphine, a shelter homeless for homeless youth in Québec City.

Kate is the Epitome of Understated Chic in Catherine Walker (UPDATED: Shoe Information)

2011
Kate was the picture of grace and elegance today as she and William enjoyed their third day in Canada.
John Stillwell/Pool/Getty Images
The Duchess chose a very chic piece by Catherine Walker, the ‘Kensington’ dress. The dress featured short cuffed sleeves, princess seaming and a deep vee on the back with sharply angled lapels.
Splash News via The Daily Mail
(Did you notice the darling little girl in the photo above, she is doing her very best curtsy!)
From a symbolic perspective it was a lovely choice, as there are multiple family ties to the designer, who died last year after battling cancer. Princess Diana was an enormous fan of Ms. Walker’s creations, the late Princess was seen in many stunning (and notable) gowns by this designer over the years, several were recently sold at auction in Toronto.
Catherine Walker
Some may also recall that Carole Middleton wore a Catherine Walker ensemble for Kate and William’s wedding in April.
,

From a diplomatic perspective it was a nice touch that Kate wore a French-born designer, she and William headed to Montreal in the afternoon, the location where the couple was most likely to encounter protestors opposed to the monarchy (they did).
The couple started their public events with a tree planting at Ottawa’s Rideau Hall, where visitors have been planting trees for more than 100 years, also where William’s parents also planted a tree back on his first birthday. It was touching to watch them pay a visit to that tree all these years on.

Then it was time to meet military veterans at the Canadian War Museum, we can safely say the young couple charmed everyone with whom they spoke.
Frank Gunn/The Canadian Press/AP Photo
Kate accessorized today with another Hobbs piece, the Somerton Clutch in silver. (Also a piece we would have *never* identified without Chiara on Facebook, thank you!)
Hobbs
While that color is sold out it remains available as of this writing in ‘Aquarius‘, thank you to Tweeter Caroline who let us know about the second color.
Hobbs Somerton Bag
We owe another ‘thank you’ to FB friend Anna, her wise eyes noted that Kate is once again wearing the Links of London Hope Egg Earrings, you can almost see them in this next photo.
Chris Jackson-Pool/Getty Images
If unfamiliar with the earrings, Kate wore them for one of her engagement photos, and has sported them several times since, they can be categorized as a “go to” pair at this point.
Links of London
While sold out, US customers may register interest in purchasing them; click here to go to the company’s online signup or waitlist.
William and Kate then flew to Montreal where they visited a children’s hospital. The following photo has nothing to do with Kate’s wardrobe, but we had to share this picture, it was made as a gift for the newlyweds by children coping with cancer.
Chris Jackson-Pool/Getty Images
The Duke and Duchess’s next stop was at the Institut de tourisme et hôtellerie du Quebec in Montreal, where they took part in a little cooking class.
Mathieu Belanger/Reuters
The only item we have been unable to identify thus far is the shoes worn by Kate.
Chris Jackson-Pool/Getty Images
We have hunted high and low to no avail, thus far your trusty team of sartorial search artists has not been able to locate the shoes anywhere. However, we remain undaunted in our mission and will continue the hunt, with a promise to update here if we discover anything noteworthy!
UPDATE #1: With thanks to Hilary at Huffington Post Style, it seems Fashionista is reporting the shoes are by breakout designer Tabitha Simmons. US Weekly editor @mio on Twitter also let us know the shoes are from the fall/winter 2011 collection, the ‘Dela’ pump in cream and grey.
Thank you also to Perfect_Sinner on Twitter and Sarah on Facebook for digging up information. Here is the same shoe in plain leather from the designer, currently available at Matches Fashion at £209.00, originally they were £415.
"Deal" Pump by Tabitha Simmons at Matches Fashion
Go look at Tabitha’s blog to see her collections, click here to read Style.com’s story on the launch of Tabitha’s biggest collection yet. Online sales only started on Friday, that is fun.
UPDATE #2: We noticed the comments about the ‘stripes’ visible on Catherine’s left insole in the photo above. Several WKW Facebook friends (thank you Anne & Catherine!) say those are what one sees on the bottom of John Lewis No Slip tights/hose. Here is a link to that product.
It was a refined, polished look for Kate today. Subdued? Yes, but very much appropriate to the day’s functions: memorial trees, war veterans and their families, a children’s hospital. The detailing on the back of the dress provided a zippy little edge, giving it a contemporary look and feel. The dress fit like a dream and was very flattering on the Duchess, it also wore well during a day packed with engagements and travel.
I imagine we will see a more casual look this evening as the Duke and Duchess board the navy frigate taking them to Quebec City. If appropriate, we’ll be back to update or share another post.
For those who may not have voted yet in our poll asking what Kate wore best on Thursday (the Roland Mouret, the Erdem or the Issa Bird Print dress) click here to go cast your vote. We’ll post results tomorrow.
