It's the White thing to do when they go crazy, or are suffering from one ailment or another. Refusing to do what you know needs to be done just means your animal suffers for longer, because your attachment is more important to you than your pet's suffering, or worse, you're too big of a pussy to put something down.

My neighbor couldn't put his mutt down, so I had to do it for him, and I didn't hesitate. My 22 lr was loaned out, so I had to use 9mm.

The last mutt he owned had the mange. It started humping couch cushions and became increasingly temperamental. And this was the last straw. His wife knocks on my door and asked me to put this mutt down because her husband wouldn't do it, and they don't have the money to let a vet do it. And I put a dog down for them a few years back.

Just do the deed if you know it needs to be done, without hesitation.
