I live in Chicago in a neighborhood that was 90% white when I moved here and is now 47% white....... Now parents are afraid to let their kids play in the back yard without keeping an eye on them.
Sad.

You're exactly right - I'm 2 hours north of you on the WI/IL border. I don't remember the post 60s days, but my friends' mother (who was from the deep South) spoke of it often when we were growing up.

She was like my 2nd mom, she told us grand stories of how it was back in the day when everyone had their own schools and sides of town to run as they saw fit. Back in the days people actually knew their neighbors, and etc.

I would never let my child in our lawn unattended, we are majority white for now, but I still wouldn't trust it.
