Yeah you have a point there, Hal deserves to make a profit from his show... but if he says everything is for vague "expenses" when he is actually profiting from it, that's another story.

If Hal's expenses are so much and the donations are not coming in, he needs to raise the prices of the air time/webspace he brokers. He should not have just pulled the plug last week on all the people who sent in more than $2600 to him.
