I happened to notice on my Google Alerts this morning the case of one Efraim Cray in one of the boroughs of the city of London in the UK. In the rather sparse report from the local news website Cray is described as a 32 year old ultra-Orthodox jew: who sexually assaulted a 14 year old jewish girl whom he had been targeting for months. (1)

This jew-on-jew child abuse is fairly common inside the ultra-Orthodox jewish community in both Britain and elsewhere: (2) typically the jews concerned do not report the crime to the police and instead cover it up or deny it ever happened (or even could). This is precisely what the parents did and promptly carted the girl off to Israel to live on an ultra-Orthodox Kibbutz where she couldn't interact with non-jews and their governmental infrastructure.

It is noteworthy that it was only because the non-jewish British police actually followed this up that Cray is being prosecuted and had it been up to the jewish community the case would have almost certainly been buried in the ever expanding heap of unprosecuted child molestation cases among the ultra-Orthodox. (3)

The reason for this is because jewish religious law (halakhah) (especially in the more stringent interpretations) regards non-jews as being a mix of all that is satanic and sub-human. In Judaism non-jews are held to be biologically more prone to (as well as more likely to give into) 'the evil urge' and thus do nasty things to jews (the Mishnah names rape, murder and bestiality as being among the more prominent of them).

Therefore jews as such should be a law unto themselves and keep the prying eyes of non-jews out of their communal affairs: such an incident as paedophilia would bring such an investigation, which is something that the ultra-Orthodox community dread more than anything as it exposes them to the glare of (non-jewish) scrutiny and thus leaves them vulnerable to attack from their enemies.

In essence this goes to show yet again that while we oft hear about Christian priests being paedophiles: the fact is that it seems to be less a problem in the Christian communities than it does among the various jewish communities.
