This apparently happened only a couple of hours before I arrived at my friend's house last night. He owns the house right on the same block where this shooting took place. The people who lived in the house were a negro and white woman from what he tells me. We spoke to a news reporter from KSTP on camera. We did not end up on television from what I have seen yet. This guy must come from a family of race mixers as he definitely looked white, but his female cousin was black and his sister I believe is native American. He(my friend) does not live in the best area of Minneapolis but I have been to his house quite a few times and never felt unsafe there. We would sit out in the back yard a lot with a small fire pit, drinking a beer, etc. Crazy stuff. My friend thought the dead guy was Hispanic and I had thought he was black. Shocking to find out he was a white guy.:(

A senior at Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis was murdered Saturday evening while celebrating his cousin's birthday.

Police say 18-year-old Jesse Mickelson died after being shot near the alley behind his home in the 4100 block of 29th Avenue South.

"He's so innocent it just makes me sick to my stomach," said Mickelson's sister, Tina Rosebear.

Rosebear said about twenty kids were outside while Mickelson was playing football with some of them in the alley. Relatives said a car pulled into the alley where they were playing.

Relatives said when Mickelson stepped onto a neighbor's driveway to retrieve the ball, a person in the passenger seat of the car opened fire.

Mickelson died at the scene.

Police describe the suspect vehicle as a mid-90s model white Dodge Intrepid.

Police say it's too early to say whether the murder is gang-related. Mickelson's family insists Jesse was not in a gang.

"He's never gotten in trouble with the law," Rosebear said. "He's never done anything that he wasn't supposed to do."

Rosebear said her shy, quiet brother was too busy pursuing his passion, rap music. He performed in public for the first time last month and had plans to study music production after graduating from Roosevelt.

Rosebear said Mickelson spent most of his childhood in foster care and that she helped raise him.

"I mean, I know that's my brother, but I was the major part of his life," Rosebear said through tears. "I was pretty much there for everything. I feel like I lost my child and not my brother."
