3 arrested in Wesley Hills synagogue vandalism

Three Rockland teenagers have been arrested on charges accusing them of vandalizing a Wesley Hills synagogue in January.

The boys are accused of spray-painting swastikas and images of male genitalia on Congregation Kehillas Bais Yehudah, 23 Lime Kiln Road, during the night of Jan. 28.

After an 11-week investigation, Ramapo police charged a 16-year-old New Hempstead boy with a felony hate crime, which carries a sentence of up to 15 years in prison. The other two boys accused of being at the scene were charged with a lesser felony offense, but still could spend as much as seven years in prison.

"We charged them with the most serious charge we could," Ramapo police Detective Lt. Brad Weidel said yesterday.

The one boy received a more serious charge because he is believed to have spray-painted the swastikas on the synagogue.

"We feel the charges are appropriate based upon on what each of the individuals contributed to the vandalism," Weidel said.

Their names were being withheld by police and Wesley Hills Justice Court because the boys may be eligible for youthful offender status.

Wesley Hills Justice Philip Schnelwar issued a temporary order sealing the names, personal information of the accused and details of the case and the arrest.

All three boys were arraigned before Schnelwar on Thursday and released to the custody of their parents.

The boys are due back in village court at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Rabbi Michael Gisser, executive director of the Holocaust Museum and Study Center in Spring Valley, said the local Jewish community was pleased to see the way the investigation was handled.

"Hopefully it sets the tone not just for Ramapo, but for other towns to follow," Gisser said. "The message is that this is not going to be tolerated. The police are going to treat this seriously."

Charged on Thursday were

• A 16-year-old from New Hempstead, with second-degree criminal mischief. He was charged with a hate crime, raising the charge from a class D felony to a class C felony, and a possible prison sentence of up to 15 years.

• A 17-year-old (16 at time of the crime) from Wesley Hills, with second-degree criminal mischief, a Class D felony that carries a sentence of up to seven years.

• A 16-year-old from New City, with second-degree criminal mischief, a Class D felony.

Weidel said extensive damage was done to the synagogue.

The columns, walkway and steps, glass doors and floor outside the building's main entrance were covered in blue spray-painted swastikas. A drawing of male genitalia also was found, with "circumsi" written below. Several raw eggs had been thrown on the walkway. There also were spray-painted images of a smiling face and a heart enclosing the word "Mom."

Tips from the public led investigators to the suspects and resulted in their arrest.

Earlier this month, police released two video surveillance photos of a man taken in the early hours of Jan. 29 at a gas station near the synagogue, which Weidel said resulted in numerous responses.

Weidel could not say if the man pictured had been arrested.

The Rockland County District Attorney's Office assisted Ramapo police in the case.

There may be an untold story behind this vandalism. Apparently this area is lousy with Orthodox Jews going around building unpopular and illegal/shady "yeshivas".

*RAMAPO - Nearly a decade since a yeshiva with student housing was proposed on Grandview Avenue, workers cleared space this week for a construction trailer. The appearance of earth-moving equipment on the former military housing complex concerned some nearby residents that work was beginning without a permit. A building permit, though, was issued Dec. 15, according to town records. "They have not yet applied for a demolition permit," Town Attorney Michael Klein said Friday. "They obviously can't do any construction until they do the demolition." At this point, Yeshiva Chofetz Chaim has cleared space for a trailer to be used by engineers and other construction supervisors. There are nearly a dozen 900-square-foot houses on the 4.8 acres, which were built in 1956 for military personnel from the Nike missile base in Orangetown. In June, state Supreme Court Justice Francis Nicolai permitted two residents to continue their lawsuit opposing the construction. That could have blocked work at the site, except that a $50,000 court-ordered bond was not posted by the residents, Jay Rosenstein of Wesley Hills and Robert Moskowitz of New Hempstead. They were trustees [who deliberately screwed up the opposition] in their communities, but sued as private citizens. Such bonding is a standard requirement in lawsuits seeking to block construction projects. If the builder won the lawsuit, the money would compensate for potential losses. Because no bonding was posted, the yeshiva was free to begin the nearly $8.4 million project at its own risk pending the outcome of the lawsuit. It was uncertain last week when demolition would begin. As for the construction, the town was still waiting for building plans to be submitted. They would be subject to an architectural review before construction could start. Dennis Lynch, an attorney for the yeshiva, could not be reached at his office Friday afternoon. The lawsuit opposes the yeshiva project, which would include 60 units of housing for adult students, as well as three similar zones adopted by the Town Board in 2004.[????] Some Orthodox Jewish residents have seen the zones as needed to provide housing connected to religious study programs. Others opposing the zones see them as a way to accommodate the housing needs of the growing Monsey area community, by putting multifamily housing into single-family areas. [this sentence is gobbledy gook]

Some old info on the case:

*The vandals left behind a strange mix of graffiti. Several swastikas in blue spray paint were left on the temple and a sidewalk leading to the entrance. There was a crude drawing of male genitalia with the word "circumcize" written nearby. The vandals also painted the word "mom" inside a heart on the front stoop, and the word "Steelers" on the temple itself.

In a joint statement issued by the Jewish Community of Rockland, the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Rockland County, the Rockland County Board of Rabbis and the Holocaust Museum and Study Center in Spring Valley, officials decried the images found scrawled outside the Congregation Kehillas Bais Yehudah Sunday morning.

"Whenever a house of worship of any faith is targeted by vandals, the crime committed is unmistakably a crime of hate," the statement read. "Hate should never be tolerated no matter what form it takes." [or course, this rule applies to gentiles/cunts only. Jews who attack churches are pranksters and/or perhaps mentally ill]

...Rabbi Michael Gisser, executive director of the Holocaust Museum and Study Center and the son of a Holocaust survivor, said synagogue officials had begun cleaning up today.

"There is a difference between hate and anti-semitism," Gisser said. "Anti-semitism is something that is unique. But the act on the synagogue — it's hate. But what kind of hate? Against the synagogue, the clergy or the people that worship there?"

....Ramapo police are asking anyone with information about vandalism at Congregation Kehilllas Bais Yehudah, 23 Lime Kiln Road, Wesley Hills, to call the police department at 845-357-2400.

[color="Red"] ...possible prison sentence of up to 15 years.

When the Jews ruled Bolshevik Russia it was usually 10 year sentences for such things, according to Solzhenitsyn. It is obvious the Jews have effective control of America.
