Israel to head international task force on Holocaust education.
Eighty-seven countries agreed to cooperate in fighting anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial, as part of a Foreign Ministry initiative on Wednesday.
The Task Force for International Cooperation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance, and Research (ITF) and the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE), along with Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon signed an agreement to cooperate in fighting against anti-Semitism and Holocaust denial, uniting eighty-seven countries in the effort.
"This agreement is a step that doubles the power of 87 states' cooperation in the fight against the de-legitimization of Israel and anti-Semitism towards Jews around the world," Ayalon said. "There are those who deny the Holocaust and are preparing for the next Holocaust. We must remember the Holocaust so that the horrors will not return, and we will make the world a safer place."
Israel was also selected to lead the ITF in 2010, marking its first time heading the task force. Former Knesset speaker Dan Tichon will head the organization, and former Israeli ambassador to Jordan Yaakov Rosen will assist him.
