Adam Carolla's Radio Show Cancelled

February 19, 2009

Station Reps Say They Are Switching to a Top 40 Format
Things just keep getting worse for radio.

"The Final Countdown" blared through the speakers at 97.1 KLSX in Los Angeles this morning, signaling the end of "The Adam Carolla Show." Rumors had been swirling about an imminent cancellation of the show for weeks, but representatives for the Adam Carolla Show confirmed the cancellation this morning. KLSX, which has prided itself on being L.A.'s premiere "all-talk" station is going to a Top 40 music format. Adam Carolla's final show will be Friday, February 21st.

Adam Carolla joined L.A.'s "all talk" radio station as the West Coast replacement for the slot vacated by Howard Stern when he took his show to satellite radio. Most of those who tried to replace Stern in other markets throughout the country failed quickly and quietly, but The Adam Carolla Show has put up a fight to stay alive for more than two years. But with the gloomy economy and the expansion of internet and satellite radio, The Adam Carolla Show has finally succumbed to poor ratings and decreased advertising revenue. A message on Adam Carolla's website states: "It's been a great couple of years at The Adam Carolla Show. Please join us for our final two shows. Thanks...goodbye for now."

Adam Carolla's on-air farewell was considerably less gracious. In response to a barrage of phone calls from frustrated and disappointed listeners, Adam Carolla attempted to explain why his show and other shows like it can no longer survive: "Most people here in Los Angeles are either dumb, or Mexican, or both, so what we must do is curtail our programming to fit the either dumb, or Mexican or both. That's what Los Angeles has become."
