Albanians face UK sex slave charges

June 30, 2006 - Albert Hoxha (27), of Tyburn Road, Erdington, and Sahit Rexhaj (23), of no fixed address, both originally from Albania, are accused of duping two Eastern European women into coming into the UK after being told they could earn a "small fortune" doing cleaning jobs but then had to hand over their earnings.

Once in UK, Hoxha and Rexhaj forced them into sex slavery by forcing them to work at brothels in Birmingham.

Hoxha and Rexhaj have denied charges of trafficking for sexual exploitation and controlling prostitution for gain.

Nirmal Shant, prosecutor of this case, said that one woman called Natasha was from the Ukraine while the other, Sigita, was from Lithuania. She said while in the Ukraine, Natasha met Hoxha's girlfriend who told her she could earn good money cleaning people's homes in the UK with the figure of pounds 2,000 a month mentioned.

Miss Shant said Hoxha funded Natasha's flight to the UK and that she got into the country using a false Lithuanian passport.

Within three days of their arrival in the UK, arrangements were made for them to work in massage parlors and it soon became clear that Hoxha was going to control them while forcing them to be prostitutes.

It is alleged that Hoxha was repeatedly violent towards them by beating them on number of occasions although he was careful not to injure their face.

This matter came to light after both women escaped from a brothel in Leicester.

Prosecutor's office also discovered evidence that both Hoxha and Rexhaj were planning to get another girl from Lithuania for the same purpose.
