Asteroid Nearly Hits Earth Without Warning The asteroid that nearly hit earth is the size of the one that exploded in 1908 over Siberia, destroying 2,000 square kilometres.

The Australian agency for monitoring space objects that are approaching the Earth, the Siding Spring Survey, reported on February 28, that an asteroid narrowly missed earth They said that it passed within 72,000 kilometres from Earth, and that it was slightly smaller than 50 meters in size, the size of the asteroid that exploded over Siberia in 1908, with the force of one thousand atomic bombs.

The distance that is passed from earth is only one fifth the distance from the Earth to the Moon, and around twice the distance that satellites in geosynchronous orbit travel around the earth, reports the BBC.

Only the asteroid named FU162 passed closer than it in 2004, but it was only 6 meters in size, and missed the earth by only around 6,500 meters.

The asteroid that flattened trees across two thousand square kilometres in Siberia might have been smaller than this most recent one called DD45.

However, it is not known how the mistake occurred, due to which people on Earth did not get any warning time for the approach of the killer asteroid. We can only speculate that the mistake was made on purpose, to avoid global panic, like was shown in the films Armageddon or Deep Impact.

However, the Americans did not launch any space shuttles with names like “Freedom”, “Independence” or “Democracy” and mobilise Bruce Willis. Millions were not evacuated into huge shelters at Mount Rushmore, so there probably was not any reason to panic.
