August Deadliest Month In Louisville Since Merger

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- August was the deadliest month on Louisville's streets since the city and county merged, and 2008 could be one of the most violent years in that time.
Metro Homicide detectives worked 12 cases in August -- more than one every three days.
While the unit has tracked down suspects in two-thirds of their cases this year, they cannot track is a trend or a reason for the spike in violence.
"I'm looking at bigger trends. We were trying to find a trend of what might be causing these throughout the year. We always look for that. There doesn't seem to be any similar trend at this point for the latest homicides we've had. They've been very sporadic and random as far as motive," said Lt. Barry Wilkerson of the Metro Homicide Unit.
The cases range from the shooting of 68-year-old Dorene Seidl, allegedly by her husband, to the slaying of 2-year-old Christopher Allen.
But behind the numbers are some common threads -- young black male victims, west Louisville and unsolved cases.
