Two arrested in hotel brawl

Rosh Hashanah turned rowdy when a group of Jewish New Yorkers visiting Aventura last week faced off with employees of the Marriott Residence Inn over the use of the hotel's dining area.

Aventura police arrested two men out of a group of about 50 men, women and children who were staying at the hotel when they challenged police who came to end the fracas on Sept. 14.

[color="Red"]The reason for the brawl: The dining area was sealed off with chairs and tape, and the group wanted to sit there and talk, police said.

When the front-desk clerk told the group that the area was off-limits, they began yelling, pulling down the tape and throwing the chairs, according to the police report.

Aventura police came in and asked the crowd to go back to their rooms -- but some members of the group did not leave, police said. After about 30 minutes trying to disperse the crowd, [color="Red"]police arrested Menashe Cohen, 38, and Joseph Edri, 33, both from Brooklyn.Cohen was arrested for refusing to leave the area, police said. Edri threw a paper cup filled with an alcoholic beverage at a police officer as Cohen was being arrested and was taken into custody as well, police said.

''It was a big scare for all of us,'' said Amanda Disla, one of the front-desk employees on duty that night at the hotel, which is located at 19900 W. Country Club Dr.

Cohen and Edri were both charged with resisting arrest with violence and disorderly conduct and taken to the Miami-Dade County Jail. They were released after posting $5,500 bond. Messages left for both men went unanswered.

The men are due in court on Oct. 5.
