Man charged with attempted abuse

A Montgomery man has been charged with attempted sexual abuse in the first degree in an attack on a boy in a store restroom.

Michael Boykins, 35, of 387 W. Delano Ave. was arrested Thursday afternoon on charges of first-degree sexual abuse, according to Capt. Huey Thornton, a Montgomery Police Department spokesman.

The suspect approached a 10-year-old boy in the restroom at the Wal-Mart on Ann Street, Thornton said. He spoke to the boy in a sexual manner and began pulling his clothes off. The victim's 8-year-old cousin walked into the restroom, attempted to intercede, then ran outside and notified the 10-year-old's mother, Thornton said.

The mother entered the restroom and stopped the suspect, and the suspect ran out of the restroom, he said.

The mother alerted other store customers, who chased the suspect and held him until police arrived and took him into custody, Thornton said.

Boykins was place in the Montgomery County Detention Facility without bond, he said.
