Roanoke Neo-Nazi leader to return to jail

A federal appeals court decided today to send neo-Nazi William A. White back to jail.

White, who is charged with threatening people by e-mail and online, was released on a $25,000 bond last week by U.S. District Court Judge James Turk.

Turk relied on a psychiatric evaluation that determined White was not a danger to the Roanoke community — despite numerous online postings in which he talked about going on a "murderous rampage."

Federal prosecutors appealed Turk’s ruling immediately and on Friday asked the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals to stay the judge’s decision until the court can decide the issue.

In an order entered today, three judges of the appellate court granted without comment the government’s motion for a stay.
