Brutality Allegations Lodged Against Police

GALVESTON, Texas -- Serious assault allegations were lodged against Galveston police officers at a town hall meeting on Tuesday, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Community activist Quannel X said there is a long history of police brutality in the island city. Five cases have been reported in the last six months.

"We want peace," Quannel X said. "Black people don't want to be violent. We are peaceful people."

..The organizers said the city's African-American community needs to take action.

"We are here to say tonight we're tired of you crossing the line," said Tarris Woods with the Galveston County Coalition for Justice. "We are tired of the excuses."

Organizers said five of the most recent alleged victims were beaten, but not booked into jail. They claim the injuries were so bad that the jail refused to accept them men.

"I say to the Galveston Police Department, treat these young brothers like you treat white folks on the seawall."
