BROWNSVILLE - U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers discovered three undocumented children in a taxi. They were trying to enter the U.S.

CBP officers arrested the two women traveling with the children, 35-year-old Kathleen Lydia Zuniga and 35-year-old Annetta Beatrice Fields.

It happened at the Veterans' International Bridge Wednesday.

The women, who are from Oklahoma, allegedly identified the children as their own and provided birth certificates for each child. CBP officers discovered the birth certificates did not belong to the three children.

The children were identified as Mexican citizens.

“The children were returned to Mexico and will be reunited with their family,” said Michael Freeman, CBP Port Director, Brownsville Port of Entry.

The two women will face felony alien smuggling charges.
