Chevrolet SS Banned in Israel Over Nazi Related Name
Recently unveiled at the Daytona International Speedway, Chevrolet's brand new 2014 SS high-performance sedan will not be imported to Israel because of its nazi related name.
Though it sounds plain ridiculous, the SS moniker, used by Chevy to shorten its "Super Sport" name, was connected by the Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial with the feared World War 2 German paramilitary unit Schutzstaffel (also known as "The SS").
According to a Yedioth Ahronoth report, Chevrolet's high performance sedan will not be welcomed in Israel as long as it bears the SS nameplate, one that "will not bring them pride or success", said Baruch Shuv, manager of the Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial.
