Hell yeah he was, but at the end of the day the guy's enthusiasm for what he was doing and obvious love for nature was infectious, at least to me. I wouldn't recomend following directly in his footsteps but if by seing his shows makes kids want to go out and explore the world a bit rather than sittin' on their asses & playing video games then I say it is a very good thing. The solution to kids going out and doing exactly as he did seems obvious, supervise your children and talk to 'em about why you don't handle poisonous snakes without proper training & protective equipment or why you don't swim with sharks. I'm very sorry to hear of Irwin's untimely death. He could be a little irritating at times, what with his constantly calling deadly beasts "sweetheart" & suchlike, but he seemed to be a genuinely nice fellow deeply committed to preserving wild animals and the natural habitat they (and we) need to survive. I feel terribly for his wife & kids, especially the baby boy who will never know the dad who loved him so.....

Yes, I am in my 50s. And that is older then most guys here. And I agree with you, that I must sound like some old hen, over protective of her chicks. That comes from being the father of three children, now grown into adults. Before the kids were born, I didn’t look at things in the same way that I do now. Things change and ideas change to suit the different circumstances.

And upon thinking about it for a while, I came to the conclusion, that yes, the show could potentially be harmful to White children for the reasons stated in my other posts. Incidentally, I came to this conclusion quite some time ago.
