LOS ANGELES (AP) – There are mixed feelings from the gay-rights community about Thursday’s historic Democratic presidential forum devoted solely to their issues.

On one hand, it’s a major milestone for the movement and a sign that the Democratic contenders want to court their votes. But on the other, there’s frustration that none of the front-runners is calling for the legalization of gay marriage.

Six of the 8 White House hopefuls will be at the Los Angeles event, which is being hosted by a gay-rights group and by Logo, a cable station geared toward gay people. (Sens. Joe Biden and Chris Dodd are not attending the event.)

All of the Democratic candidates support a federal ban on job discrimination against gays. They also favor repeal of the military’s “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy and support civil unions for same-sex couples.

Only two long-shots support gay marriage: Dennis Kucinich and Mike Gravel.

The Logo channel says it offered to host a forum for Republican candidates, but had no takers.

The Western democracy of today is the forerunner of Marxism which without it would not be thinkable. It provides this world plague with the culture in which its germs can spread.
