A diplomat from Qatar allegedly tried to light an explosive device on a flight from Reagan National Airport to Denver, sources told NBC News.

Sources close to the House Homeland Security Committee told NBC that Mohammed Yaaqob Y.M. Al Madadi, vice council third secretary, was subdued on United Airlines Flight 663 by a federal air marshal.

The flight landed safely in Denver just before 9 p.m. It left Reagan National at 5:34 p.m.
