[Police suspect that shooter "may be targeting Jews", so they issued a warning to "Jewish leaders." Based on what? He shot one person who happened to be a Jew. Is that a campaign? But anyway, somebody tell me the last time the police ever warned white people in the innumerable cases where negro or other non-white murderers were targeting white people? The usual practice is to always downplay any possible racial motivation. Many times we have seen negro murder/rapists who attacked ONLY white women, but when did the police ever specifically warn white women that a negro rapist may be targeting them? No, they just report that a rapist is on the loose and never mention that he seems to be targeting white women. In many cases nobody even finds out this crucial racial angle unless they're diligent about investigating. Hell, there's been cases where folks have called the police directly and the cops didn't want to reveal the race of the perp or perps. Oh, but if a Jew gets attacked, then all that hesitation and obfuscation goes out the window and the police immediately issue a warning to the "Jewish Community."]

Gunman in Deadly Wesleyan University Shooting May Be Targeting Campus, Jewish Community

Thursday , May 07, 2009

Police hunting for a gunman in disguise who killed a Wesleyan University student said the shooting wasn't random and the suspect may be targeting the campus and the Jewish community.

Authorities identified the suspect, who opened fire Wednesday on junior Johanna Justin-Jinich while she was working at a bookstore, as 29-year-old Stephen Morgan.

"This was not a random act of violence," Middletown, Conn., Police Chief Lynn Baldoni told reporters Thursday. "Evidence uncovered overnight suggests that Mr. Morgan may be focused on the Wesleyan campus as well as the Jewish community."

Baldoni said police have warned both the university and local Jewish leaders to be "extra vigilant."

School officials told students, faculty and staff to stay home while the suspect is on the loose. The university posted the warning Thursday morning on its Web site.

"Wesleyan has instructed all students to remain inside their residences and remain vigilant," said university President Michael Roth at Thursday's news conference. "We have also asked faculty and staff not to come to their offices."

Police say a disguised gunman fatally shot Justin-Jinich, of Timnath, Colo., on Wednesday afternoon while she worked at a popular bookstore near campus Wednesday before fleeing into the bustling downtown area, leaving his wig behind.

A Wesleyan spokesman says Morgan has no known connection to the university, and it was unclear where he lives.

Reports that he and Justin-Jinich once dated weren't confirmed.

Authorities have released a surveillance photo taken inside the bookstore of a thin, bearded man they believe is Morgan. They describe him as armed and dangerous.

After reassuring residents late Wednesday afternoon that there was no threat to the public, police issued new warnings that night, telling residents and students to stay inside and be "extra vigilant."

Police Lt. Margaret Liseo said evidence uncovered at the scene "heightened our level of concern," but she wouldn't say what the evidence was. Baldoni also wouldn't disclose what investigators found.

Justin-Jinich was working at the Red and Black Cafe inside Broad Street Books when the gunman shot her several times. She was pronounced dead at a hospital.

She would have graduated next year from Wesleyan, a private liberal arts school in central Connecticut with about 3,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

Justin-Jinich was a 2006 graduate of the Westtown School, a private Quaker boarding school in rural southeastern Pennsylvania, about 25 miles from Philadelphia.

Wesleyan University officials offered counseling Wednesday night.

"This is a devastating loss for Johanna's family, friends, and for the entire Wesleyan Community," the university said in a statement. "Our hearts go out to all those who grieve for Johanna, and we hope all can find comfort in the support of friends, teachers and classmates."

Authorities said there were several witnesses to the shooting, and police found a wig used by the gunman and a weapon at the bookstore. Liseo said authorities haven't confirmed that it was the weapon used in the shooting.

The shooting and manhunt forced police to order hundreds of college students gathered nearby for Wesleyan's annual Spring Fling concerts to seek refuge. The shows were canceled.

Middletown Mayor Sebastian Giuliano said he has college-aged children of his own and can identify with Justin-Jinich's family.

"This has to be every parent's worst nightmare," he told reporters Thursday. "The loss is unimaginable. To every student, we want you to know how precious you are."
