Morado, who left behind his injured companion and a dead couple in the other car, has at least two prior drunken-driving arrests, court records show.

Police suspect Morado, 45, had been drinking Wednesday night before his Ford Taurus ran a stop sign at a rural intersection and broadsided a Chevy Cavalier east of Evans about 8 p.m., state Trooper Ryan Sullivan said.

"Alcohol is suspected as a contributing factor," he said.

The couple killed in the crash were identified as Monte Davenport, 61, and Sandra Davenport, 60. They were on their way home to let their dogs out after dining at their favorite restaurant, Sandra Davenport's brother said today.
