An explosion has leveled a building at Hillcrest Apartments in Asheville.

Authorities tell News13 that the blast happened in building 21 around 11am this morning. Flames and thick smoke shot 100 feet into the air, and could be seen from the Smoky Park Bridge. The flames are out now, and firefighters are working at getting smoke out of the building.

There are no serious injuries reported. But a maintenance man was inside, and was taken to the hospital with an ankle injury. Everyone in the building has been accounted for.

There is no word on what caused the explosion.

There are no road closures at the Smokey Park Bridge, but traffic is moving very slowly, likely from people looking at the fire.
