Past September, the LICRA demanded 15.000€ and the sentencing of Robert Faurisson for denying crimes against humanity.
This 27 October, the XVIIe correctional chamber of Paris decided : ZERO.
The LICRA org. was calling for Faurisson and Dieudonné to be found guilty of "denying crimes against humanity" (Gayssot law). On December 26, 2008, at the Zénith, Dieudonné gave a tribune to Faurisson, who took advantage of the situation to tell the public that even if the courts sentenced him multiple times, his opinion would never change.
To be precise, here are the words Robert Faurisson uttered on stage :
"You don't know what I say, what I profess. Some of you, most of you, know or don't know what the media dare to say about my ideas : all of the most stupid ideas associated with 'revisionnists'. You know there is a special law in France that will allow our friend (Dieudonné) to be dragged before the 17th chamber (speech crimes court) like I was. I can't even remember how many times.
I can simply say that I do not have the right, by law, to tell you what revisionism is; what these people call negationism. If they like calling me that, I like calling them 'affirmationists'... Spell that word any way you like !
For 34 years I've been treated like a Palestinian in my own country and I can't prevent myself from sympathizing with them and their cause."
At first, the LICRA, "shocked" by this declaration, done on stage before an audience of more than 5.000 people, released this message :
"After consulting our lawyers, the president of the LICRA, Patrick Gaubert, estimated that the crime of celebrating negationism had been constituted by the spectacle offered by Dieudonné and Faurisson. He called for the authorities to prosecute both of them."
The defense reminded the court there never was any law preventing "celebrating negationism" and that the penal code requires a strict and impartial analysis.
It also found necessary to remind the court that in France, the LICRA had no right to order courts to prosecute nor boss around public authorities.
Professor Robert Faurisson was cleared of all charges while the LICRA was ordered to pay for all procedural expenses, including the defendants.
