SEYMOUR, Ind. – An Indiana woman is behind bars, accused of an unthinkable crime. The Seymour Police Department says the woman forced her 12-year-old relative to have sex for money with the woman’s boyfriend. He’s now charged with molesting the girl.

The woman’s name is Tina Day. Her boyfriend is [color="Red"]José Mendez-Romero. They're both behind bars and awaiting charges from the Jackson County prosecutor. The 12-year-old victim is with her siblings at a safe location.

“It’s a tragic type of situation and what we're doing now is our best to get through each piece of information we can as quickly as we can to get it resolved,” says Seymour Police Chief Craig Hayes.

Day was arrested Friday and is being held on a Class B felony of promoting prostitution by arranging to have sex with a minor. The prosecutor’s office told me the paperwork would be filed in the morning.

Mendez-Romero faces a Class A felony of child molesting. The story has been the talk of Seymour since Saturday.

“They got her down there in the county jail without a bond, so at least she ain’t going to be getting out to do it again,” says Seymour resident Chris Wiesel.

Seymour police started investigating after a complaint call. They're obviously concerned that there were other minors in the home.

“At this point, that’s what we're doing is trying to determine if there are other victims and if so trying to investigate those as quickly and as accurately as we can to get it resolved,” says Chief Hayes.

Police say the abuse occurred multiple times over the past two months. All the kids have been placed in protective custody.

“We’ve served a search warrant at the victims residence and obtained some evidence from that location and at this point we're conducting further interviews,” says Chief Hayes.

Police tell me this investigation is ongoing and they wouldn't be surprised if there were more charges and more arrests.

The prosecutor’s office tells WHAS11 News the official charges will be filed first thing Tuesday morning. Both Day and Mendez-Romero are expected to make their first appearance in court at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
