A pregnant mother and her boyfriend were caught on tape abandoning her 3-year-old daughter at a local hospital and speeding away, MyFOXKC.com reported.

The girl attempted to walk back to her parent's car but police said the pregnant mother, India Dale, 23, took her daughter back inside the hospital's front doors before running to a waiting car.

As police tried to interview the girl, Dale's boyfriend, Terry Singer, 25, returned to the hospital within the hour demanding "his baby," the Web site reported.

Police arrested Singer after he became belligerent while they tried to interview him.

"This child is going to carry this memory with them for some time of their parents abandoning them at the hospital, and certainly it is a very tragic situation," Capt. Rich Lockhart told MyFOXKC.com.

Dale and Stringer were arrested, but it was not immediately clear with what they were charged.

Missouri has a Safe Haven law that allows parents to drop off newborns at a hospital, but it doesn't apply to 3-year-olds, the Wed site reported.
