Rapper Dolla has been shot dead.

A publicist for the Atlanta-based rapper said he died at the Beverly Centre shopping mall in Los Angeles after a dispute with another man. Police and coroner's officials have not yet confirmed the victim's identity.

The publicist said Dolla - real name Roderick Anthony Burton II - and another rapper who goes by the name DJ Shabbazz were waiting at a valet stand after a shopping trip before the fatal shooting.

Police say a person with a gun was detained hours later at Los Angeles International Airport and is being questioned.
