SAN ANTONIO -- He told police he had no choice but to protect himself and his family.

A homeowner shot and killed an intruder on the south side of San Antonio after two men broke into his home. At the time of the shooting, two small children were inside the house, located on the 500 block of Creath Place.

Around 1 a.m. Wednesday, a heated argument took place at the driveway, and the homeowner reportedly said he feared the two suspects would return, which they did.

Two 19-year-old Hispanic suspects kicked in the door wielding a knife, making their way into the living room. The homeowner pulled out a caliber rifle and fired two rounds in their direction. One of the intruders died on scene, the second was shot and he fled two blocks down on East Ackard Place. The homeowner chased him down and alerted police.

The San Antonio Police Department doesn't yet know nature of the disagreement but the men were angry enough to force entry with a weapon, said SAPD Capt. Cris Andersen.

The second intruder faces a charge of burglary with the intent to commit assault. He's recovering from the gunshot wound at the hospital.

Meanwhile, the homeowner will not likely face charges because he allegedly acted in self defense.
