This isn't quite "just in", but it's recent enough. With virtually no fanfare, informant Keith Cotter got a reduced sentence for serving up Shaun Walker, Travis Massey, and Eric Egbert on a platter to the Feds. This was literally buried so far back in the Deseret News website that I only found it through a Google search for "shaun walker sentenced".

Federal prosecutors say a former member of a white supremacist organization put his life on the line to turn government witness, leading to the downfall of the leader of a national racist organization and local white supremacists charged in the beatings of several minority citizens in Salt Lake City.
Since he agreed to testify for the government, Keith Cotter has spent the past 3 1/2 years in custody under protective watch, being the subject of death threats from white supremacists, including accused cop killer Curtis Michael Allgier, said assistant U.S. Attorney Carlos Esqueda.

"He's been labeled a race traitor. To say he's a marked man is an understatement," Esqueda said during a sentencing hearing on Tuesday.

Cotter's testimony, prosecutors say, was key to conviction of former leader of the National Alliance Shaun Walker and alliance members Eric Egbert and Travis Massey. All three men were found guilty by a jury this summer of conspiring to wage a campaign of fear against minority citizens in the Salt Lake area by taking part in the beatings of two minority men outside two downtown bars in 2002.

Cotter, who placed himself at the scene of both beatings, was also a suspect in the beating of a black man in March 2005, in which the victim was assaulted with a beer bottle and hospitalized with a broken ankle.

In court, Cotter apologized for the way he has lived his life and offered his apology to the victim in the 2005 beating, although the victim was not present. He admitted the past 2 1/2 years had been difficult, facing threats, but he added he is glad he testified because now he said he has a chance at a better future.

Esqueda said he believes Cotter can break away from his racist past and thanked him for exposing the "dark underbelly of the National Alliance," which holds itself out as a nonviolent political group but has been linked to violent events across the country.

"If the leopard can change his spots, I think this is the leopard who can do it," Esqueda said.

U.S. District Judge David Sam acknowledged Cotter's contribution and how it has put him in danger. Sam also thanked Cotter for his service to the government, adding that citizens have a right to walk and drive down the streets without fearing violence because of their race.

Sam sentenced Cotter to serve 42 months in prison, but granted him credit for time served, leaving Cotter with essentially an eight-month sentence.

Cotter also was ordered to pay more than $22,000 in restitution, with $1,312 to go to the victim in the 2005 beating and the rest to go to the Utah Crime Victim Reparation Fund.

Sam did note that, in a letter, the victim accepted Cotter's apology, adding that the victim hoped it was sincere.

So while Shaun Walker has to serve 87 months, this son of a bitch will walk in eight months.
