BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A suicide car bomb killed at least 20 civilians in a Shiite militant stronghold in Baghdad Saturday as international leaders attended a conference aimed ending the bloodshed.
The blast, which hit a busy traffic circle in Sadr City, also left 45 injured, police told CNN.
Separately, two mortar rounds landed inside the fortified Green Zone compound near the Iraqi Foreign Ministry building where delegates were discussing Iraqi security. No damage or casualties resulted, the military said.
Saturday's conference, which sees U.S. diplomats sit down with their Iranian and Syrian counterparts for the first time in decades, opened with appeals from Iraq's PM not to use his country as a "battleground" for international disputes.

Stop the war in Iraq!
Went up on the signal hill where I made my stand,
Bullets in my pocket, a semi-auto in my hand,
I've been all around the world, so
put the needle in my arm and I'll be dead and gone.
